Safety Engineer

Responsible for providing safety related input to design projects including, but not limited to, process hazard reviews, hazard consequence modeling, process hazard analyses, risk assessment studies, review of critical design documents, fire hazardous area designations, and management of changes as related to safety. Under general supervision, independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Assignments are generally well defined with clear and specified objectives. With additional experience within one area, assists in the design of larger and more complex assignments which involve conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures, and/or equipment with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents. Assignments usually include one or more of the following: equipment design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparation, and other activities of limited scope. Typical requirements include an undergraduate degree in Engineering and minimum of 2 years experience, with typical experience ranging from 3-7 years. Certification as a Licensed/Chartered Professional Engineer is preferred.
Reporting to the Safety & Environmental Manager, responsibilities will include the management of safety and environmental consultancy studies without supervision.
The position requires a minimum of 10 years experience within Safety Engineering Consultancy, with more recent supervision/lead engineer roles in study work. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in a relevant engineering field and have experience in risk assessment techniques including all round knowledge of all aspects of safety and environmental engineering including: safety, environmental, reliability and availability and HSE management systems.
The successful candidate must be a team player and possess good analytical, communication, decision making and interpersonal skills with experience of writing reports. Flexibility is a necessity as travel within the US and overseas will be required.
